Top 10 Manhwa Where the MC is a Badass Villain (2026 Rankings)
Look, I’ll be real with you. I am officially burnt out on the "righteous hero" trope. You know the one: the MC gets betrayed, gets OP powers, but somehow still forgives his enemies and saves the world with the power of friendship. It gets old.
Sometimes, you just want to see the main character absolutely crush their enemies with zero hesitation. You want an MC who plays dirty, manipulates the system, and is undeniably the bad guy of their own story.
I went through my reading list and picked out the Top 10 Manhwa (and Manhua) where the MC is a pure, unapologetic villain. I’m talking about characters who range from hilariously unhinged to straight-up terrifying. If you want to root for the dark side for a change, this list is exactly what you need.
10. Rooftop Swordmaster
- Chapters: 92 (Completed)
- The Vibe: Pure, unadulterated carnage.
My take: This one is pure chaos. I didn’t expect it to go this dark, but that’s exactly why it stands out. After being brutally bullied into a coma and losing his parents, the MC doesn't seek justice through the law. He gets a giant, overpowered sword and literally goes to war against society.
Downside: The plot isn't super deep. It’s mostly just raw catharsis and revenge, but honestly, sometimes that’s all you want.
9. Villain To Kill
- Rating: 8/10
- Status: Ongoing (73+ Chapters)
The Hook: Imagine a top-tier, beloved hero getting murdered by his own comrades, only to reincarnate into the body of a teenager who holds the powers of a legendary villain. Now, he has to navigate the villain underworld to get his revenge.
Why it works: It completely flips the script. It feels a bit like The Boys, where the "heroes" are actually corrupt politicians and the villains are just outcasts trying to survive.
8. Reverse Villain
The MC in this one was a legendary villain in the past who nearly conquered the entire Murim world, only to be killed by his rival. Fast forward to the modern day, they both reincarnate. The catch? The MC still has his ruthless villain mindset, but now he has to adapt to a world of modern hunters and smartphones.
Best moment: Watching an ancient, bloodthirsty warlord get annoyed by modern inconveniences and arrogant D-rank hunters is endlessly entertaining.
7. Hero Killer
- Rating: 8.5/10
- The Vibe: Dark superhero society.
Honestly... Ihwa might be one of my favorite female MCs in recent years. In a world where "Heroes" rule with absolute authority, she decides to become a villain specifically to hunt them down. The combat choreography is incredibly fluid, and she genuinely does not care about playing nice.
6. I Grow Stronger By Eating!
The Setup: This MC, known simply as "Mr. Kim," is a complete psychopath. His ability is exactly what the title says: he absorbs the powers of whatever he consumes.
My take: This feels like a darker version of a standard Isekai but with zero morality. When he gets transported to a fantasy world, he doesn't try to save the kingdom or build a harem. He just looks at dragons, knights, and monsters and wonders what they taste like. It is wild.
5. Return of the Crazy Demon
- Comedy Level: 10/10
- The Vibe: Unhinged martial arts violence.
Why I love it: Jaha Lee isn't just evil; he is completely out of his mind. After stealing a heavenly artifact and regressing to his past, he decides to conquer the martial arts world simply because he feels like it. You never know what he's going to do next. He’ll execute a grandmaster in one panel and complain about his bowel movements in the next.
4. The Hero Has Returned
The Reality: This one is bleak. Seriously, it is not for the faint of heart. A classic Isekai hero saves a magical world, returns to Earth, and finds his family dead and his life completely ruined. Broken by despair, the "savior" snaps and decides to use his divine powers to eradicate humanity.
Verdict: If you want an edgy, tragic look at what happens when the chosen one becomes the ultimate threat, read this immediately.
3. FFF-Class Trash Hero
- Chapters: 124+
- The Vibe: Satirical fantasy subversion.
Kang Han Soo defeats the Demon King, but the gods of the fantasy world give his personality an "F" grade and force him to restart his 10-year adventure. Does he learn to be a better person? Absolutely not.
Best feature: He treats the fantasy world like a toxic gamer trying to speedrun an RPG. He relies on blackmail, murder, and manipulation to skip quests. It is a hilarious takedown of the entire Isekai genre.
2. I Am the Fated Villain
The Catch: Gu Changge is transported into a cultivation world, but the system explicitly tells him his role is the "Destined Villain." Instead of trying to fight his fate, he leans into it completely.
Why it’s top-tier: I love how smart he is. He actively hunts down "Sons of Fortune" (those generic, lucky chosen-one heroes), steals their opportunities, takes their allies, and ruins their reputations with brilliant, cold calculations before finishing them off. He literally farms protagonists for EXP.
1. Magic Emperor (Demonic Emperor)
- Rating: 9.5/10
- Chapters: 302+ (Ongoing)
The Undisputed King: Zhuo Fan. Honestly, he might be the most ruthless villain MC I’ve seen so far. As the ancient Demonic Emperor, he was betrayed and killed. Reincarnated into the body of a lowly servant, he uses forbidden demonic arts and terrifying intelligence to scheme his way back to the top.
Final Verdict: What makes Zhuo Fan the best is that he never softens up. Even when he forms alliances, he is usually just using them as pawns. It is Machiavellian politics at its absolute finest. If you read only one title on this list, make it this one.
