Web novel/webtoon 'Solo Leveling' made into Japanese anime
The web novel/webtoon 'Solo Leveling, which has accumulated 14.2 billion views worldwide, will be produced as an animation in Japan. Along with this, a teaser image and a promotional video were also released on the 4th.
According to the company, the action-fantasy will be co-produced by Kakao Entertainment and Japan’s renowned animation studio A-1 Pictures, the company behind many successful animated adaptations such as “Sword Art Online,” “The Seven Deadly Sins,” “Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day, Erased” and “Your Lie in April.”
Solo Leveling is a web novel written by Chugong in 2016 and has gained great popularity for its solid storytelling. After that, in 2018, it was introduced as a webtoon through Kakao Entertainment's Noble Comics project, which turned a popular web novel into a webtoon, accelerating the box office's success.
The promotional video for the animation is available on Aniplex and D&C Webtoon Biz’s official YouTube channels.
Chugong, who wrote the original web novel, said, “About 6 years ago, while I was writing the first few lines of ‘Nahon Rep’, if I had told you that this novel would become a cartoon, I would definitely have told you not to laugh. But now, after the manga, the news that it will be an anime is making my heart flutter. We are waiting for the day when Sung Jin-woo and his friends come alive.”
